Why Success Almost Cost Me My Life
WHY SUCCESS ALMOST COST ME MY LIFE
I believe we all live in our paradigms.
We each have our own unique ways of viewing different pieces of life. One paradigm that I see play out again and again is the idea of “success” as a goal. It has definitely almost cost me my very life.
I coach, teach, and train business owners for a living. I train them on branding themselves to attract and connect with more customers. I see the paradigm of success as a goal as a driving factor in many of my clients and peers lives.
SUCCESS IS NOT A GOAL
I know saying success is not a goal is a challenging claim to make. It goes against the standard paradigm of…I’ll be successful if:
-I drive a lambourghini
-I live in a polo club
-I have the most attractive spouse
This is the standard paradigm we live in. Success as a goal.
WHAT IS THE POINT
My point is that living life with success as a goal is a losing proposition.
Every time I have set a goal and achieved what I thought would be “success”, there was always something MORE available. More money, a even bigger house, an even newer car, more was always available.
This is when I discovered I was living in a losing proposition.
WHAT I DISCOVERED
What became evident for me was that success as a goal does not work, but success as a way of BEING does.
The paradigm then shifts to success is:
-Doing my best
-Keeping my commitments to myself and others
-Loving unconditionally
-Forgiving always
Success for me becomes who I am now, instead of what I can achieve in the future. What I learned is that the only fullfilling paradigm of success, was a state of being. BEING SUCCESSFUL means just that…being…not doing. If first you choose to BE, your best self, then the doing is the natural fruit of who you are being.
Examining and accepting this new paradigm does not occur overnight. Old habits and deep rooted paradigms have a way of creeping back into consciousness. What I’ve learned is to create space for a new paradigm to exist, until it exists naturally in place of the old.
AWARENESS
The gift for transforming into the new paradigm thus becomes awareness. Awareness that you and I do live in the old paradigm and as thoughts and actions happen inside of that, being aware that we are acting in that way is the first step to shifting to the new paradigm.
Creating a mental system to question and become aware of each decision is the vehicle for creating the new paradigm naturally. You may not know this, but I struggle with being a workaholic…most “successful” people are(in the old paradigm).
I remember being faced with a decision of sacrificing my scheduled family time to complete the a additional project that the completion of which would totally take me to the GOAL OF SUCCESS in my peers eyes. I then practiced my exercise of being aware of the decision, and realized that success for me, was keeping the commitment(to family time in this case, keeping commitments of course in the new paradigm of success) over taking on the additional project that would satisfy the old paradigm.
What will you do to make yourself AWARE as you shift consciousness and your own personal definition of success from a goal to a state of being?
How to Maximize Conversions Today? High-Tech or High-Touch?
Conversion rates seem to be everything in the internet marketing community today.
How much does your offer convert? How many optin? How many complete the upsells? What is you revenue per click?
With this high tech environment, I sometimes feel that we forget to touch the customers. Emails, Videos, and Webinars are cool, but what about really touching the client? I think the customers feel really distant sometimes.
I had a friend recently tell me about one way he was totally rocking out his online promotion. He had a webinar model for his business, but he was converting SIGNIFICANTLY more webinar attendees.
He was actually collecting the phone numbers of all the attendees. After the webinar would end, he would use multiple autodialers to call through the attendees and walk them through their order, handle any objections, and make the sale.
This was brilliant, just another way to be high touch in a high tech world.
Go create an awesome day

Why 98% of network marketers fail and how to be in the 2%
You’ve heard it said that 98% of all network marketers fail. That statistic is thrown around a lot.
The painful truth is that what worked 20 years ago, doesn’t work today. What worked 5 years ago doesn’t work today. Because the whole MLM industry is based on customer retention, with teams not succeeding all the progress that is made by a professional marketer is lost with time.
Why it’s broken
It comes down to the velocity at which your business can grow. 20 years ago(and some may argue today) a mlm business has been a 5 year plan. A 5 year plan to build a team large enough to be able to replace your income and truly have that home-based-business of your dreams. The biggest reason it’s been a 5 year plan is the level of velocity a professional network marketer has with the leads available to them.
Networking events, flyers, and traditional media have been the cornerstone of this industry for years. But because of the low retention rate that most companies face, the amount of leads from these traditional sources is not enough to create a sustainable business.
What everyone is doing
Networking Events –
Most professional network marketers can eek out enough time to attend one networking event a week outside of their mlm meetings. The cost in time(preparing for the event, driving to the event, the event itself) can be up to 4-5 hours and at the event the marketer may only meet 30 people, really only connect with 5, and those would usually be the only leads from this source each week.
Flyers –
Here professional marketers spend 2-4 hours spreading advertising material across cars. A good marketer can put out 1,000 flyers in that time and with a generous response rate of 2% that marketer will get 20 leads each time they go out.
Traditional Media –
Here professional marketers that have money have continually invested in media to get them the results they seek. Newspaper ads, tv spots, park benches, and more make up this group. The high cost per lead scares away the majority of marketers and since this portion is usually the hardest to duplicate, few marketers are in this space. The one’s that enter it often find themselves paying up to $25 per lead sometimes more.
How many leads do you need?
I’ve heard this question asked and answered multiple times. The truth is YOU need consitant leads and your TEAM needs leads. Using non-targeted advertising just isnt an option anymore.
What can you do?
Define Your Target-
First, identify the exact person you are looking to attract as a salesperson or distributor for your business. Identify what they do, what they look like, what their hobbies are…get into the demographics(age, race, gender) and pychographics(thinking patterns) behind who you are attracting
Brand Yourself-
Second, create a stable image as the person who can assist, lead, and collaborate with the type of person you are attracting. Brand yourself so when they hear about you they are CURIOUS to meet you and know that you would be of SERVICE to them. Be the person who can solve their PAIN points.
Connect-
Now that you know who you are looking to connect with and you have branded yourself as the person who can solve their pain, it is time to connect with these individuals. Using Facebook Advanced Search and Facebook Groups can be two excellent tools for searching and interacting with people inside of your target. Find them and connect with them.
Summary
The winners in Network Marketing are the people that really play the game. They are the few players that define a niche, brand themselves as the problem solver, and connect with that niche. As soon as they have connected with the niche, these players follow through and solve the individuals pain with the players products, services, and opportunities.
